The Nijmeegse Vierdaagse , officially the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen Nijmegen, is held every year and starts on the third Tuesday of July. It is the largest walking event in the world and one of the largest sporting events in the world. The Nijmeegse Vierdaagse is organized by Stichting De4Daagse (part of the KNBLO-NL). Participants in the Four Days Marches run 30, 40 or 50 kilometers for four days; Soldiers walk 40km (with 10 kg pack) or 50km without. The Nijmeegse Vierdaagse coincides with the Four Days Marches (formerly Nijmegen Summer Festivities).
Building and sites of the Vereeniging on Keizer Karelplein in Nijmegen have been long-year-old start and finish place and accommodation of the organization. In the meantime, that has been moved to the nearby Wedren, where much more space has been created with temporary facilities. The starting blocks will start in the morning from 4 a.m. and the outer finish time is the first three days at the latest at 5 p.m., and on Friday 6 p.m.
The event has been traditionally opened since 1928 with the flag parade; Since 1951 this colorful participant reception has been held in Stadium de Goffert in Nijmegen, which recently no longer takes place on Monday evening prior to the start, but already on Sunday afternoon.
